As part of Mass Appeal’s ongoing producer series “Rhythm Roulette,” Detroit mixmaster and emcee Black Milk was undoubtedly put to the test.

The web series “Rhythm Roulette” challenges producers by asking them to select random albums from a record store (while blindfolded), then documenting as they create a song from their selections. Former episodes have featured: Party Supplies, 88-Keys, J-Zone, Lee Bannon, Statik Selektah, Illmind, El-P, Mr. Green, Nick Catchdubs and Damu the Fudgemonk.

“There’s a lot of records in here,” Black Milk says before being blindfolded. “A lot of vinyl. Shit is kind of overwhelming, because it’s definitely not organized at all. No labels or nothing – so I’m just randomly selecting a row.”

Black Milk’s random vinyl selections included:

Freddy Fender – Since I Met You Baby (1975)

Paul and Paula – Holiday for Teens (1963)

Herb Albert – Magic Man (1981)
