Love has often been compared to a drug, whose addictive qualities not only uplift but also unsettle the spirits of someone in its grips. But it’s rare to hear a condition both as universal and as all-consuming as love likened to an object as mundane as a… glove? But Detroit soul-pop trio Taxon Clade so deftly weave this analogy throughout their new single, “Dance with Me,” that you begin to forget all those ideas of love as a narcotic substance or numbing agent and start to see it as a real accessory to living. And as you listen more to the woozy, punch-drunk grooves of Detroit Music Magazine’s exclusive premiere of the track, you may find yourself dancing without even knowing it.

Taxon Clade — whose members comprise Daniel Ericksen, Drew Bartosik, and August Leo — have been playing locally for about two years now. On July 5, they will release their first full-length, which they worked on with Jim Diamond — the founder of Ghetto Recorders. For those not familiar, the studio was behind the first two White Stripes’ LPs, as well as albums by Rodriguez and The Dirtbombs. Taxon Clade will play a record release show at The Loving Touch in Ferndale on July 7 with Hala and White Bee, and they will also play a show at PJ’s Lager House on June 22 prior to that. You can download “Dance with Me” for free, as well as another single — “Don’t Take It Easy” — at the group’s Bandcamp.
