It’s been almost five years since the Detroit-born singer-songwriter put out his last proper full-length album, The Age of Adz, but he hasn’t stayed quiet. In that time, he’s released an LP and an EP with his side project Sisyphus, scored a documentary about rodeos, collaborated with Nico Muhly and Bryce Dessner on classical music, and even assembled a hip-hop mixtape of — you guessed it — Christmas music. But now he’s announced a return to his “folk roots” with a new record titled Carrie & Lowell, due out March 30 in Europe and March 31 in North America via Asthmatic Kitty.

According to a press release, the album takes its name from Stevens’ mother and stepfather, and its eleven tracks are about “life and death, love and loss, and the artist’s struggle to make sense of the beauty and ugliness of love.” Guests on the record include Casey Foubert, Laura Veirs, Nedelle Torrisi, Sean Carey, Ben Lester, and Thomas Bartlett. You can see the tracklist below and watch the trailer for the album after the jump.
