What began as a small group of individuals in Austin, Texas discussing their opinions and ideas about what the future of music and media held has transformed into a global phenomenon that draws thousands of attendees from around the world. Since its inception in 1987, South by Southwest (SXSW) has grown to include film and emerging technology, but music remains at the forefront of the agenda. The festival is the largest of its kind, with over 2,000 artists performing in more than 100 venues across the city.

This week’s second round of artist announcements revealed a few Detroit acts who will be making the pilgrimage to Austin in March to perform. Ritual Howls, Sinistarr, and Alex Winston will bring their homegrown flavors of garage-rock, techno, and pop, respectively, to Texas this spring. The music portion of SXSW runs from March 15th through the 20th, with set times and venues are still to be determined. More performers will be announced in coming months, so stay tuned to find out if any more hometown bands will be making their way South this spring.
