As promised on an announcement via his Instagram account yesterday, Detroit’s very own Eminem has released a video for the latest single from his multi-platinum selling album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 just in time for Mother’s Day.

The clip for “Headlights” — directed by renowned filmmaker Spike Lee — depicts a reconciliation between the rapper and his long-estranged mother, Deborah Nelson-Mathers.

Filmed in Em’s old stomping grounds along 8 Mile Road, the video brings to life the artist’s apology to his mom for how she was portrayed in previous songs like “Cleanin’ Out My Closet” and “My Name Is”. It cuts between present-day footage shot from the mother’s point of view and a montage of videos and images from the rapper’s childhood.

This marks Lee’s first music video in five years, his first since the late Michael Jackson’s “This Is It”. “Headlights” marks the fifth single off Eminem’s eighth studio album and features fun.’s Nate Ruess.

The Marshall Mathers LP 2 has sold over two million copies as of May 4, 2014. In June, Eminem will become the first rapper to headline London’s Wembley Stadium. In further support of the album, Eminem has joined forces with Rihanna for “The Monster Tour”, which includes two dates at Detroit’s Comerica Park — August 22 and 23.
