During a recent interview with Tim Westwood (English DJ and 20 year host on BBC Radio 1), Detroit emcee Danny Brown opened-up about his drug use, specifically the use of codeine promethazine cough syrup.

The Old rapper openly discusses his criticisms of “lean” (a popular mixture of codeine promethazine cough syrup and soft drinks, such as Sprite), citing the drink mixture as “liquid heroin.” His strongest complaint of the drink mixture was its side-effect of weight gain, due to its sugary soda additive. Brown admits to Westwood, that at the height of his use, he was consuming more than two liters of soda every day in connection with codeine promethazine cough syrup.

“I was getting too fat, man. I gained, like – 15 pounds,” said Brown. “You can’t wear Rick Owens looking pregnant. You can’t have a Gucci Mane belly and wear high-end fashion.”

Brown goes on to discuss fashion, new music, and a slew of other topics.
