“Epic” is the first word that comes to mind upon hearing the opening of “Gxmes,” the new track from Detroit MC Angel Haze. This is the second song she has released off of her upcoming EP, In The Winter of Wet Years, her first project following her 2013 Dirty Gold LP.
The song, produced by TROY NoKA, is the perfect combination of sweet and salty, featuring both a sultry pop chorus and a fierce rap bridge. Haze’s sugary R&B voice, set over a trappy beat, is impressive in itself, but her true talent lies in her rapping. Her no-holds-barred lyricism and tight flow justify the assertion that she is “better than bitches around.”
