The Orb play tribute to J Dilla on their forthcoming album

Iconic ambient techno duo The Orb have revealed the details of their upcoming album, the first for Cologne-based label Kompakt since 2005’s Okie Dokie It’s the Orb on Kompakt, and it is set to feature a tribute to Detroit’s J Dilla. As usual, Moonbuilding 2703 AD will also see Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann setting their brand of textured soundscapes to a grandiose concept.

 

According to a press release, the album “is inspired by this place called Earth and the idea that in the future mankind discovers its root element in the ancient rocks on solar moons, which are based on musical harmonies, that despite being imprinted a billion lights years ago, are set to the same tempo as the Orb.”

 

Moonbuilding 2703 AD consists of only four tracks, although each piece will be a “mini epic.” The album will be released on June 22 on digital, compact disc, vinyl, and deluxe vinyl formats. It’s this last edition that will include The Orb’s bonus tribute to the late Detroit producer called “Dilla’s Moon Quake.” Check out the full tracklist below:
