Motor City electronic artist Terrence Dixon has thrown his support behind a crowdfunding effort aiming to launch Minimal Detroit Lounge, a new club that hopes to launch in May with Juan Atkins confirmed as resident DJ. The venue, which takes its name from a series of Detroit-focused house and techno groups Dixon formed on social media, was conceived out of a desire to offer the city’s DJs a proper home to play at — hence, the GoFundMe campaign that Dixon is leading.

Dixon took to his Facebook page to announce his plans:

Once we get the keys i want to open the door to all the people that can make this happen, this is not a fly by night, not a one off, but a pillar in Detroit for years to come. We are not going to step on the people toes that have helped keep Detroit scene going to this point, shouts out to paxahau and nightsneak. md has always been about treating Detroit artist here as if they were in Europe..like a driver, hotel, dinner etc..a lot of time that’s hard to do here, but that’s the effort we are going to make here. Let me just tell you a little bit about our plan We have Juan Atkins confirmed as a resident dj, we will bring in such acts like Thomas Fehlmann Deejay Pierre Paul Leighton Johnson Jeff Mills Claude Young Jr. Richie Hawtin ..etc etc..We want to hire Michael Fotias to build us a in house sound system, we want to work with everybody in Detroit.

Detroit Minimal Lounge joins a recent wave of announcements of venues that focus on electronic music, including Populux – which opens next month – as well as Dimitri Hegemenn’s (owner of Berlin’s Tresor) hopes of turning Fisher Body 21 into a techno club. With an opening day set for May 23, Detroit Minimal Lounge would be open in time for the Movement Electronic Music Festival. To support Terrence Dixon’s initiative, visit the GoFundMe page here.
