Quite the busy man, Detroit rapper Red Pill has released music at a seemingly breakneck pace in the past couple years. As a third of the hip-hop trio Ugly Heroes, the artist born Chris Orrick put out an EP in 2014 in addition to a full-length in 2013. While it seems Ugly Heroes are taking a bit of a break, Red Pill more than picked up the slack in 2015 with three solo releases on the Mellow Music Group label.

Now, Red Pill and director Ruff Mercy have treated us to a music video for the catchy single “90s Money,” from his most recent EP, Day Drunk. True to its namesake, the track is a nostalgia trip for Millennials, taking them back to the easy money days of the dot-com bubble. With references to The Ren & Stimpy Show and novelty plastic Garfield phones, the video’s colorful line drawings complete the ’90s aesthetic by recalling the Jean Kelly’s seminal album art for A Tribe Called Quest. Athletic rhymes and a bouncy throwback bass line fit for the Native Tribes Posse complete the retro feeling.
