Indie electro-rock duo Nigel & The Dropout are quickly establishing themselves as one of Detroit’s hardest working acts, playing a bevy of local shows while still finding the time to record four albums in almost as many years. Now Nigel Hemmye and Andrew Ficker are fresh out of the studio with their fifth full-length, Folderal, which will see release in May.

The duo have also put out four previous full-lengths that can be found on their Bandcamp page. For a taste of their earlier work, check out the video for “Entropy” off 2013’s Tumultuous.

“Gestalt” is our first taste of their latest album, and if it’s any indication for the rest of the LP, Folderal will continue to push the duo’s high-energy sound in new directions. The track starts with a buzz and builds into a vibrant jam session guided by resonating vocals. “Gestalt” would feel at home both at a DIY rock show or in the basement of a raucous house party.

Nigel & The Dropout tour frequently around metro Detroit, and their live performances incorporate impressive improvised light shows. They will be playing Saturday, May 2 at Paychecks in Hamtramck – as part of the eighteenth Metro Times Blowout – in an opening slot for Valley Hush, whose track “Bedrooms” they remixed earlier this year.  Also, see the duo at the Folderal release show on May 16, at Ferndale’s The Loving Touch.
