Surf-music titan Jimmy Buffet performed to a sea of loyal Parrotheads Saturday, at Comercia Park, but only after discussing his history with Detroit, and his love for the state of Michigan, with Fox 2.

During the more-than 15 minute interview, Buffet shares stories from his time “up north,” to his college days in Ann Arbor and East Lansing, as well as his decision to perform in Detroit following the city’s political controversy and economic woes.

After being encouraged to skip Detroit as part of his tour (in wake of recent financial obstacles) Buffet recalls: “I said, ‘we’re going to play in Detroit.’ I said, ‘I don’t care if a thousand people show up, I don’t care if 18,000 people show up… they have been that good to me.'”
