Detroit rock god Jack White can now add public intellectual to his resume. The former member of The White Stripes will participate in a roundtable discussion tonight at Yale University on “Exploring the Rise and Fall of Paramount Records.” White should have a lot to contribute, as his Third Man Records label joined John Fahey’s Revenant Records to compile a two-volume set chronicling the Wisconsin imprint, which released iconic jazz and blues music from 1917 to 1932.

White will be joined by Revenant’s Dean and Scott Blackwood, music critic Greil Marcus, musician Adia Victoria, and Yale professor Daphne Brooks. The panel will “present an evening of musical exploration and conversation, unpacking the label’s history.” Each participant will have the opportunity to play one song in its entirety before speaking on it in further detail. For more information on the discussion, which is free and open to the public, visit Yale University’s website.

In other Jack White news, the artist hits the road again next week for a European leg of tour dates in support of his sophomore solo album Lazaretto. This will be the first set of shows since touring keyboardist Isaiah “Ikey” Owens died suddenly while in Mexico. In his place, White has recruited Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age and The Dead Weather for all forthcoming shows, including a date at Madison Square Garden next January. In a statement, Jack White said:

“Although it is impossible to replace Ikey, the incredibly talented Dean Fertita will be joining the band to play piano and keyboard for all of Jack’s currently announced tour dates.”
