If you thought the release of a long-awaited EP from Detroit’s rising electro-pop duo Gosh Pith would mean a break from new material for a while, then you’d be wrong — or at least partly so. Although Josh Smith and Josh Freed put out their debut record, Window, about two months ago, they’ve also found time to put their trademark “cosmic trap” spin on “She Talks Too Much,” an impossibly catchy dancefloor anthem from the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Elohim. The original version has a huge hook to it, with a chorus that is just too irresistibly charming to deny.

Gosh Pith go Rumpelstiltskin on the skittish barbs of Elohim’s diss track, melting it down into liquid gold. The result is a hallucinatory vision as appropriate for the opium den as it is for the night club. The boys from the Motor City have toyed with the engine that drives Elohim’s contempt, steering it away from bubblegum fantasy into fever dream. They’ve given the nervous energy of her words a sonic form, but they’ve also taken the edge off, leaving behind a song that feels less like the rushing free-fall of coming up and more like the gently floating waves of coming down.
