When you think of jazz, Ghostface Killah and Detroit’s Danny Brown don’t immediately jump to mind. However, these two maestros of rap have lent their rhymes to music by Toronto’s post-bop trio BADBADNOTGOOD.

The single is called “Six Degrees,” and it’s part of a 10-inch record scheduled for release on June 24 via Lex/eOne. The B-side features an instrumental cut called “Tone’s Rap,” which is expected to have vocals recorded upon some time later in 2014.

The spy-movie mood of “Six Degrees” is reflected in the artwork for the single, which casts an unblinking film noir-ish spotlight on Ghostface Killah’s countenance. In spite of the black and white image, Ghostface’s flow is as colorful as ever, as he spits about “dangerous thoughts” seen through blinks of his “evil third eye.”

Sandwiched between those two verses is Detroit’s Danny Brown, who ups the tension with his vibrant rasp, barking about “seeing dying in your future.” These rappers’ rivals may meet an unfortunate fate, but with cutting-edge collaborations like these, we have a lot to look forward to as listeners.
