Detroit techno legend Carl Craig and Chicago house heavyweight Green Velvet have teamed up for a collaborative album, Unity. The seven-track album was released through Beatport by Relief Records earlier this week with little fanfare. Twitter and Facebook posts from Craig, Green Velvet, and Relief Records were the only indication that the new work was out.
Right off the bat, “Intro” sets the tone for the album, with a robotic voice-over emphasizing the collective effort meant to bridge the Detroit/Chicago electronic worlds. It goes on to describe the venture as one designed to “celebrate and make some new creations to tickle your brain.” The rest of the album comprises energetic, dynamic, futuristic tracks that flow together seamlessly, proving the cities’ partnership can produce some solid tunes.
